Hard Hits in the Healthcare Industry

January 18, 2021
The Covid-19 Pandemic has affected every stage of our lives. It has especially hit the healthcare industry hard which has become overburdened and regulated by ever changing directives.

One of the hardest hit segments of this industry has been the mental health segment. Already a crisis in America, the acute care behavioral health system has been unprepared, ill equipped and many segments are on the brink of financial collapse. Doctors who were training in the psychiatric realm, or were choosing their specialties, were diverted to the front lines of the crisis, causing shortages in qualified clinicians to serve a growing need.

Telemedicine has been on the forefront as well so that nurse practitioners or doctors are protected in treating their patients. Although this measure is innovative, these patients need, more than most, physical and social support. Telemedicine and Social Distancing tend to take this layer of support away from this underserved and vulnerable demographic.

Many of these patients are better served in a skilled nursing behavioral unit. Foundations Health Solutions is the leading provider in Ohio in this arena, serving the behavioral population since 2001. With 16 behavioral and 29 memory care units in the state of Ohio, no other rivals their experience.

Our behavioral unit at Carington Park has counseling for our patients, a serving psychiatrist, a general medical director, specialized activities and dedicated staff. We offer secured doors to ensure safety and peace of mind for family members. A center social worker and leadership support is always available to work through health or financial questions.

While an acute care setting is sometimes needed to balance medication, focus on behavioral changes or address a changing health need, our patients are aging and managing their mental illnesses in place. Carington Park is dedicated to serving this population with respect and dignity. Welcoming the chance to answer questions on each individual patient, our teams are ready to serve our communities, hospitals and this at-risk population.
